OUTCOMES

  • The 26 charcoal producers that participated committed to transition to honey production because it is more sustainable than charcoal production.

  • The final community presentation using art and music raised awareness of the problems caused by charcoal production and inspired useful dialogue amongst the community. 

  • 3 village heads and 4 community leaders attended the final presentation and learned about the problems caused by charcoal production and are now supportive of change efforts.

  • In subsequent visits to the community, leaders and students ask more questions and are more willing to consider alternatives to charcoal production.

  • 8 people from the village received beehive and honey production training and 30 more are enrolled for future trainings.
