After five years of convening girls from East Africa for our annual East Africa Girls Leadership Summit (EAGLS), we are delighted to scale the summit to Tanzania to reach more girls.
In partnership with SEGA Secondary School in Morogoro, we held the first national EAGLSx in Tanzania and brought together 60 girls and 13 teachers to take part in an eight day residential summit.
Throughout the summit, the girls learned and gained creative tools and relevant information to build their leadership and ability to navigate challenges that hinder them from pursuing their dreams.
Some issues the girls learned about were the Girls Bill of Right, Mental Health Awareness, Leadership, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights. The girls also took part in the Sustainable Development Goals Campaign dubbed #WorldToDoList and outlined critical issues their local and global leadership should address with urgency that. Visit the campaign here to see issues outlined by the girls.
The girls reflected on the most pressing challenges facing girls within their communities and designed advocacy strategies to implement after the summit. The summit also trained teachers on mentorship and teaching skills to support girls when they return to school.
After a 2 year break caused by COVID-19, we are excited to resume our annual regional East Africa Girls Leadership Summit this December. For more information on how to attend the summit, please reach out to Wanjiru@creativeactioninstitute.org or doris@creativeactioninstitute.org.
