The Challenge
The SYD girls carried focused on promoting proper parental care, including accountability in paying school fees and providing basic needs for girls. They also highlighted the importance of increasing the number of girls who complete their education, promoting sponsorship opportunities from organizations, offering life skills sessions, and ensuring the consistent provision of sanitary towels. These efforts aimed to strengthen girls’ school retention and improve relationships between parents or guardians and their children. During the activity, the team emphasized two key messages: the need for parents to build stronger relationships with their children and the importance of parents providing sanitary kits to their daughters.
The Action
• Created a mural depicting a pregnant girl with educational messages to spark community conversation
• Performed skits demonstrating how poor parent-child relationships negatively impact girls' education
• Advocated for parents to pay school fees consistently and provide basic necessities
• Promoted sponsorship opportunities from organizations to ease financial barriers
• Called for consistent provision of sanitary kits and life skills sessions
• Centered the message that stronger relationships between parents and children are foundational to girls' success
