Creative Action Institute’s unique methodology is rooted in popular education, learner-
centered, feminism, intersectional, and creative approaches and is infused with
experiential, participatory and creative activities. We have equipped hundreds of teachers,
community leaders, and youth to advance leadership development, gender equality,
education, health, climate justice and bio-cultural diversity.

 

Creative Action Institute operates its own annual programs and is also a consultant to
other like-minded organizations, providing services in curriculum development, toolkit
development, and a variety of capacity building.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Creative Action Institute has been on a growth trajectory and seeks to engage a full time
Instructional Designer and Trainer to play a lead role in end to end development of unique
curriculum, toolkits, and training for clients; revising and creating new content for our
programs; designing and facilitating trainings; and coaching our global facilitation team.
This role will report to the Deputy Executive Director and work in close collaboration with
our global team.

 

The role will include, but not be limited to, the following areas of focus
(percentages are approximate and will likely fluctuate):

 

(75%) Designing curriculum, courses, toolkits, trainings, etc., from start to finish as
well as refining existing content, with input from the Creative Action Institute team,
partners, and clients, depending on the project. This will include:

  • Research-based content recommendations

  • Building out learning objectives and outcomes and supporting arc of learning

  • Leading the development and/or revision of content

  • Integrating content feedback

  • Integrating content onto digital platforms as needed

  • Developing, implementing, analyzing learning assessments to determine effectiveness and/or next steps needed to support learning

  • Drafting reports that include trends, insights, and recommendations based on learning assessments and other monitoring and evaluation data.

 

 (10%) Facilitating trainings and workshops for Creative Action Institute’s ongoing
programming and special projects. This might include training of trainers model or
direct implementation.


 (5%) Supporting instructional design and facilitation competencies of Creative Action
Institute’s team as appropriate and when requested by:

  • Coaching staff on facilitation skills

  • Coaching staff on instructional design and related skills to enhance and further develop their training design and development skills and capabilities

  • Creating templates and standards to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of curriculum development

 

 (5%) Support business development:

  • Developing descriptive content for inclusion in proposals

  • Estimating LOE

  • Developing sample agendas/design

  • Participating in potential client/funder meetings as needed

  • Researching leads, as appropriate

 

(5%) Team planning, meetings, administration, etc.

 

Education, Requirements, and Competencies:

 

Education and Requirements:

  • Holds a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as education, instructional design, international development, etc.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional design, facilitation, and training, preferably with at least 3 years experience working in the international development space.

  • English fluency is required (additional fluency in Spanish, French, and/or Kiswahili is preferred)

  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and G Suite

  • Must be able to travel internationally approximately 4 times annually.

  • This position can be remote, in-person (Ipswich, MA), or hybrid.

 

Design Competencies:

  • Excellent researcher with experience conducting desk reviews and stakeholder conversations/interviews/focus groups to inform content design

  • Experience architecting and developing courses, toolkits, workshops, etc., to achieve learning objectives and meet needs of target audiences, clients, and those facilitating the content

  •  Facility in developing learning assessments, analyzing results, and drawing conclusions and making recommendations based on those results.

  •  Strategic and critical thinker who is skilled at both big-picture thinking and managing details

  • Shows demonstrated capacity for follow-through and integrating feedback

  • Understands and utilizes creative methodologies, participatory and popular education in curriculum design and training

  • Understands and utilizes learner-centered and gender-responsive approaches to education

  • Experience in educating and designing content for global audiences, ideally on gender equality and climate change

  • Experience and/or strong knowledge in trends in international development, gender equality, education, and climate justice

  • Brings in new and innovative approaches to curriculum development, and willing to stay current on best practices and newest approaches

  • Ability to craft original, creative activities that support learning objectives.

 

Facilitation Competencies:

  • Expertise in online and in-person facilitation

  • Ability to bring energy and warmth to a space, while providing clear instruction and guidance.

  • Ability to synthesize insights coming from participants

  • Excellent time management and ability to make adjustments on the fly without compromising the learning

  • Experience and willingness to coach others in facilitation and training

Business Development Competencies:

  • Ability to accurately estimate LOE for proposals

  • Ability to develop sample agendas, activities, descriptions for use in proposals

  •  Ability to identify prospective business leads that are a strong match for the organization’s skills and expertise

  •  Experience participating in business development meetings

 

General Competencies:

  •  Effective and professional communicator across time zones and cultures and in various contexts from internal to high level engagements: verbal, written, and team collaboration

  • Highly collaborative and creative, with experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders and complex processes

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Experience managing others, a plus
