Job Description

Creative Action Institute is experiencing considerable growth and seeks to engage a full-time Instructional Designer and Trainer – a new position - to play a central role in developing unique curriculum and toolkits for clients and new content for our own programs centered in popular education and learner-centered approaches that leverage creative, participatory and experiential activities; building the training capacity of our team, and designing and co-facilitating trainings.

We have trained hundreds of teachers, community leaders, and youth to leverage the skills and knowledge to advance leadership development, gender equality, education, health, climate justice and bio-cultural diversity in East Africa, West Africa, and Central America. These approaches have been readily replicated and adapted in a variety of contexts including under-resourced and remote locales.

 

Creative Action Institute operates its own annual programs and is also a consultant to other like-minded organizations and provides services in curriculum development, toolkit development, and capacity building.

 

Responsibilities

Creative Action Institute seeks a full-time Instructional Designer and Trainer to support its recent substantial growth who will play a central role in developing unique curriculum and toolkits for clients, create new content for our own programs, provide facilitation support and coaching to other team members, and co-facilitate trainings as needed. The role will include (but not be limited to) the following areas of focus:

 

  • Informing and supporting the development of course curricula

  • Facilitating and co-facilitating trainings for Creative Action Institute and clients

  • Developing, editing, and providing feedback on content, defining/prioritizing learning goals, and sketching preliminary plans for curriculum

  • Creating and providing guidance on standards to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of curriculum development

  • Choosing media for training to accommodate the audiences' needs, meet project requirements, and achieve stated learning objectives

  • Coaching staff on facilitation skills

  • Coaching staff on instructional design and related skills to enhance and further develop their training design and development skills and capabilities

  • Identifying and designing appropriate tools for measuring the effectiveness of training

  • Analyzing results, developing conclusions and reports, and making recommendations based on implemented instructional design

 

Education, Requirements, and Competencies

 

Education and Requirements

  • Holds a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional design, facilitation, and training

  • English fluency is required (additional fluency in Spanish and/or French is preferred)

  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and G Suite

  • Must be able to travel internationally for occasional trainings

    • learner-centered approaches

    • gender-responsive approaches to education

  • Strong knowledge or applied experience in:

    • international development,

    • gender equality,

    • education, and

    • climate justice

  • Experience in educating global audiences on gender equality and climate change

  • Experience coaching others in facilitation and training

  • Brings in new and innovative approaches to curriculum development and is committed to staying up to date on current trends in training and curriculum development

  • Experience in crafting original activities

  • Effective verbal and written communicator

  • Excellent writer

  • Strong researcher

  • Strategic thinker who is both skilled at big-picture thinking and managing details

  • Pays close attention to detail and shows demonstrated capacity for follow-through

  • Highly collaborative and creative

 

Salary and Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience - between $55k-$65k
