Art Medium: Portrait
Partner: Concern for the Girl Child
Location: Kampala, Uganda

"Over time we have been seeing the impacts of the pandemic increasing and impacting each girl differently."
- Gloria, Sauti ya Dada club member

Girls today are facing unprecedented disruption to their coming of age. Due to the pandemic, girls across East Africa are experiencing an increase in unplanned pregnancies, anxiety, and depression. Mentor Rose Namubiru and visual artist Allan Kyakonye worked with the students from Concern for the Girl Child to support their mental and physical health. Together, they created self-portraits to reflect on their identity, express difficult emotions, and build their confidence.
