Call for Artists

We're calling 5 contemporary visual and performing artists from East Africa: Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda to collaborate in their work at the intersection of creativity and social change for our Sauti ya Dada program. 


In short, Sauti ya Dada creates spaces for adolescent girls in East Africa to access and exchange information and tools they need to activate and grow their leadership skills. The program partners with grassroots leaders to provide support to girls for them to learn, discover and develop their agency, and contribute to change in their communities, countries, and the world. Workshop Summary 

Visual artists and performing artists will collaborate with mentors and teachers from each partner organization. This is an opportunity for collaborative work that interacts with communities. The art projects would support dialogue and diverse views to create a deeper understanding of themes such as climate change, gender equality, girl’s education, Sexual Reproductive, and Health Rights, etc.) among others, and support locally driven solutions.


Project period and time commitment: Month of October 2021 (days TBD with the partner organization).

Eligible applicants:

  • Visual and performing artists with a strong and committed career in the mentioned countries of East Africa.

    • Artists possess the ability to travel to Rwanda or Tanzania​

  • Artists who can produce results in collaboration with Creative Action Institute methodologies.

  • Artists who can communicate and interact with local people in community events.

  • Communication: The artists must have the ability to facilitate, communicate concepts, both visually, verbally, and through clearly written materials.

  • Performance: The artists should demonstrate an excellent professional history of working cooperatively and accomplishing projects on time.

  • Must have access to high-speed internet to participate in interviews, webinar-style training, and skype calls with Field Project Managers.

  • Must be able to travel within your country of residency, including to more remote locations. (COVID restrictions considered).
